Contemporary

Teacher: Kailin Solomons

This class is open to dancers of all levels, whether you’re a novice or were put in a tutu as a tot. The classes will encompass three different techniques of contemporary dance, namely Cunningham, Graham and Horton. The reason for covering three techniques is to give everybody the chance to try three very different styles of contemporary and to find a style that you both enjoy and think suits you best.

No one style is harder than the other, although you will find that they each challenge you in their varying ways. It’s not all hard work though! Contemporary is all about expression through movement and can be a fun change for those of you who had been previously been ‘strictly ballet’.

Ultimately, though, these classes are about having fun due to their ‘all abilities’ policy. They aim to encourage those who have done and loved contemporary prior to university to continue with their hobby, and to offer newcomers a fun and easy route into contemporary dance.
